stroke

The Belize Diabetes, Heart and Stroke Association of New York aims at reducing the incidence of stroke, improving outcomes for stroke survivors, and supporting their families and caregivers.

  • Raise Awareness: One of the primary goals is to raise public awareness about stroke risk factors, symptoms, and the importance of early detection and treatment. This can involve educational campaigns, community outreach programs, and media campaigns to reach a wide audience.
  • Prevention: BDHSANY aims to prevent strokes by promoting healthy lifestyle choices and advocating for policies that support stroke prevention, such as tobacco control laws, healthy eating initiatives, and programs to promote physical activity.
  • Support Stroke Survivors and Caregivers: Providing support services for stroke survivors and their families is a key objective. This can include support groups, counseling services, informational resources, and assistance navigating the healthcare system.
  • Advocacy: BDHSANY advocates for policies and legislation that improve stroke care, research funding, and access to treatment and rehabilitation services. We also work to reduce disparities in stroke care and access to resources.
  • Research: BDHSANY supports research into stroke prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. By supporting scientific research, we aim to improve understanding of stroke and develop new interventions to reduce its impact.
  • Professional Education: BDHSANY  provides education and training for healthcare professionals. This can include continuing education programs, conferences, and workshops to improve the quality of stroke care and promote best practices.
  • Raise Funds: BDHSANY relies on fundraising efforts to support our programs and initiatives. This may involve organizing events, soliciting donations, and applying for grants to fund research and support services.

BDHSANY is focused on reducing the burden of stroke through prevention, education, support, advocacy, and research.

The Belize Diabetes Association of New York (BDANY) was formed in 2002. Its establishment stemmed from the growing concern about the prevalence of diabetes within the Belizean community in New York City and the urgent need for education, support, and resources to address this health issue. BDANY was founded to raise awareness about diabetes, provide support to individuals living with diabetes, and promote prevention and management strategies within the Belizean diaspora.

Today, BDANY has expanded its scope and services and has become the Belize Diabetes, Heart and Stroke Association of New York (BDHSANY).
